Find the good – and praise it.

alex h Journal Communications Inc. is a Franklin, Tenn.-based custom magazine media company founded in 1988 by an investor group that included Pulitzer Prize winner Alex Haley, author of Roots. More than 20 years, three offices and hundreds of magazines later, Journal’s corporate mission still reflects Alex’s motto: “Find the good – and praise it.”

A company is only as good as its employees, and the Journal staff combines creativity and innovation with an eye for detail and a strong work ethic. We’re a team of engaged professionals who do everything in-house except printing. Our team includes accountants, salespeople, graphic designers, photographers, editors, writers, videographers, project managers, marketing, magazine distribution and a sophisticated Web department.

Our corporate culture and the talents and dedication of our employees are directly reflected in our publications. Journal is committed to employing a diverse team of publishing professionals. We understand that having a diverse workforce enables our company to produce printed and online publications that illustrate the diversity of contemporary life, which strengthens Journal’s competitive position in today’s multicultural marketplace.

Journal is also committed to environmental responsibility, both in our office environment and in the production of our magazines. We encourage our clients to transition to the use of paper with a minimum 10 percent PCW content, and we have been proactive in helping our clients be mindful of other opportunities to support sustainability.

We work hard to produce high-quality content and promote environmental awareness, but we still find the time to have fun – just ask anyone who’s seen our commercial parodies or attended one of our potlucks – or lend a helping hand to United Way through a variety of imaginative ways. We pride ourselves on our magazines and Web sites, but it’s the people behind the pages who make it all happen.
